The Mommy Makeover is a tailored combination of procedures performed in a single operation under one anaesthetic. Most commonly: a full abdominoplasty with diastasis repair, breast lift with or without implants, and circumferential liposuction of the flanks. The combination is chosen to address what the patient herself identifies as the priorities — never a fixed package.

How this is approached at the practice

  • Single anaesthetic, single recovery — but only when total operating time and patient health permit.
  • VTE prophylaxis is intensified for combined procedures.
  • Overnight nursing in a recovery suite.
  • Childcare, partner support, and time off work planned during consultation.

Who is suited to a Mommy Makeover

Mothers whose family is complete, who are at a stable weight, who have specific anatomical concerns following pregnancy and breastfeeding, and who are in good health for a single longer operation.

  • Family complete
  • Stable weight for at least six months post-weaning
  • BMI under 32
  • No untreated diabetes, hypertension or thyroid disease
  • Realistic recovery expectations and adequate domestic support

Sequential combined procedures

The procedure, step by step.

We perform the abdominoplasty first, followed by the breast component, with liposuction interspersed. Two surgical teams scrub for parts of the operation. Total operating time is kept under seven hours.

Recovery

Week by week — what to expect.

Final aesthetic settling at 9 – 12 months · Social downtime: Time off work 3 weeks, full activity at 8 weeks

Night 1 – 2

Overnight clinic stay

Two nights of overnight nursing, mobilising every two hours, regular analgesia.

Week 1

Quiet days at home

Bent at the waist, walking short distances. Family or live-in help is essential.

Week 2 – 3

Standing upright

Standing fully upright by day 14. Light office work may resume from week three.

Week 8

Activity unrestricted

Light cardio from week four, full activity from week eight.

Month 9 – 12

The new silhouette

Scars fade. Swelling resolves. The waist returns. Photographs at six and twelve months.

Risk disclosure

We tell you everything that can happen.

Surgery carries risk. The most important conversation in any consultation is the one about what could go wrong, what we will do if it does, and what we cannot guarantee. The list below is a partial summary; the full discussion happens in person.

Combined-procedure risks

Each component procedure carries its own risk profile (see individual procedure pages). Combining them does not multiply individual risks but does extend recovery and increase total VTE risk.

Venous thromboembolism

Mechanical and pharmacological prophylaxis is intensified. Patients walk from day one.

Wound healing

The longest closures (abdominoplasty, vertical breast scar) are the principal sites of wound-healing concern. Smokers are not candidates.

Asymmetry

Combined cases can require a small revision in 8 – 12% of patients, which is included in the care plan.

Frequent questions

Before you book.

Why combine the procedures?+

One anaesthetic, one recovery, one period of help at home. For the right candidate the combined approach is safer in total than two separate operations.

How much help will I need at home?+

Live-in help (partner, family, or a hired caregiver) for the first two weeks is essential, particularly if you have small children.

Can I have another child afterwards?+

Pregnancy is possible but it will undo the abdominal repair. We strongly recommend completing the family first.

Begin with a written surgical plan.

A consultation lasts 60 – 90 minutes and ends with a printed plan and quotation. There is no pressure to decide in the room.
